Location
I took this while camping at Lost Dutchman State Park outside of Phoenix, Arizona.Time
This was taken during sunset at the campsite.Lighting
Sunsets are the most dramatic when clouds are involved. About 10 - 20 minutes after sunset is when you get your colors going across the sky. On the opposite horizon, out here in the west, you will see blue and pink right above the horizon. It is the shadow of the Earth. Those colors also appear before the sun comes up, again on the opposite horizon.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III, Tamron 28-300mm lens, Feisol tripod with an Acratech Ball Head, and an infra red remote.Inspiration
The desert is a very unique environment, very harsh. The species that call it home have adapted in the most amazing ways. Plants have smaller surface areas on their leaves, less area to loose precious water through transpiration. Cacti swell up with water when it rains to carry them through the dry spells. During dry spells the accordion affect contracts as the cacti utilizes the water it has been storing. The sunsets are beautiful in the deserts. The particulate matter in the atmosphere adds to the colors of the sun setting.Editing
I used Lightroom 5 for post processing. Mainly to tweak the photo, shadows, blacks, highlights and whites. I also used Luminar. In my camera bag
If my car is going to be present as in camping at a drive in site. Then I might have my Canon 5D Mark III and my Sony A7RII. I can use my canon lenses on the Sony with a Metabones Adapter. Prime lenses, 15mm Lateral Fisheye, 35mm, 50mm, 65mm and 28-300mm. Battery packs on both cameras with extra batteries. I am able to charge the batteries while I am driving. Tripods with a ball head and maybe a pistol grip for both cameras.Feedback
Enjoy yourself. I do not bother putting up a tent. Out west before monsoon season, I will only use my 2 foot high air mattress and a sleeping bag. Out here you can sleep under the stars most of the time. It truly is a 5 million star night!
