Location
It was early Spring of 2018 and I decided to take a stroll through Kollen Park in Holland, MI.Time
This little duckling was explore his new world. The tuff of grass next to him provides a nice scale for his size. The photo was taken around 2 p.m.Lighting
The sun was behind him providing some nice back lighting. There were a few clouds overhead, which provided a nice defused lightinggEquipment
I used my Canon 1DX with my 70-200 mm lens behind a 2x extender. With the extender I can only stop down to 5.6 f.Inspiration
I live near Lake Michigan and we have beautiful parks on the water in our city. Lake Macatawa feed into lake Michigan and that is where I took this picture. I love taking walks in the Spring with my camera. There is so much new live bustling about that begs to be captured and shared.Editing
I uses primarily Adobe Lightroom for all my post processing. Every photo I take is sharpened a bit and the shadows and highlights are adjusted for realism. In my camera bag
Canon 1DX and Canon 7D II, EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF70-200mm f/2.8L II USM, Lee soft and hard graduated ND filters and a 10 stop "Big Stopper" ND filter, Really Right Stuff 40 Ball head on a Gitzo tripod, two Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT all in a FStop Tilopa Backpack.Feedback
Using a telephoto lens (racked out) compresses the back ground and a large aperture makes for beautiful creamy bokeh. It is important to get as close to the ground as you can when taking photos of little creatures. This low point of view gives the sense that you are right there with them. You can almost feel the grass between your toes.
