This photo was taken on our dining room table.Time
This photo was taken in late April around 5:30 PM.Lighting
This photo was taken on our dining table which has a sliding door adjacent to the table. The afternoon sun shines through the sliding door across our dining room table. I positioned the apple so the sunlight was hitting the apple in hopes that a portion of the apple was illuminated by the sunlight and part would be in the shadows. It appears to have worked out, and it took only one shot. I shot this at a shutter speed of 1/400 and f stop of f10. I increased the f stop to insure all the apple would be in focus.Equipment
I took this photograph with a Nikon D3200 with a 15 to 55 mm lens. The camera was handheld and only natural light was used.Inspiration
I would like to say there is a good story behind this photograph, but in truth I was bored one day and just wanted to take some photos. I simply got an apple from the kitchen and thought how I could make this interesting. I had an image in my head of what I wanted the photo to look like (highlight from the sun with shadows in the back) so I arranged the apple on the table to hopefully accomplish that. I used manual shutter and aperture settings knowing that I wanted the entire apple in focus.Editing
The original shot was taken at 1/400 of a second at f10. The RAW file was a little too dark due to the shutter setting but the overall effect was what I wanted. I used Photoshop Elements to lighten the overall exposure to provide the highlighted areas I desired with a darkened background. In my camera bag
I usually carry only one small camera bag. Within I have my Nikon DS3200 body and two lens (15-55 mm and 55 – 300 mm) I have a polarized filter for each lens, and I have 4 macro addon attachment lenses for the smaller lens. I also have a remote shutter release fob. A also have a small pad and pencil for note taking.Feedback
You never know when a good shot may occur. Even taking photos for something to do should not mean you just take photographs without thought. This photo was taken to have something to do but thought went to this shot and the finish result was what I wanted to accomplish. A good game plan for any photograph is to have a desired outcome in mind and use your current photography knowledge to go about accomplishing that outcome. This was a perfect example of that thought process.
