Behind The Lens
Location
We live behind Independence Cemetery (Independence KY). This cemetery is quite large and mostly consist of rolling hills. We live behind the cemetery property and have a great view of the rolling hills and deer that come to visitTime
This photo was shot in mid August around 8:45 to 9:00 PM right after sunset.Lighting
Being right at sunset there was still light from the setting sun and a soft light from the rising moon. With the low lighting this time of day provided a used a tripod with a remote shutter release. This shot was taken with at aperture of f9 at a shutter speed of 1/40 of a second, and using ISO setting of 100.Equipment
I have two cameras ( Nikon and Sony), and I used the Nikon D3200 for this shot. I used an old tripod that I have had for over 20 years, used a Nikon remote shutter release, and my 50-300 Nikon lens.Inspiration
My wife and I walk the cemetery quite often with our dog (Freddy). During these walks I saw this view and always wanted to shoot this scene with a full moon over the cemetery. Once I retired I took my camera (Nikon D3200) and tripod, right after sunset, determined to get the shot that was in my head.Editing
I went to the cemetery on a night with a full moon, but the moon did not cooperate with me that night. I wanted to duplicate the shot that I had imagined, so I used a photo of a full moon that I had shot earlier and place it into this photo. I did enlarge the moon to provide a more dramatic effect and darken the sky a little, while leaving the rest of the photo alone. In my camera bag
I like to keep things simple and usually carry as little as possible. I actually do not use a camera bag. I have a camera vest with lots to pockets, some being large to hold lens and filters. I have yet to be able to fill all the pockets of this vest but I am trying. One pocket holds lens cloth, one pocket holds remote camera shutter release, one pocket is for the lens cover, one pocket is for a snack, one of the larger pockets is for the 15mm to 50mm Nikon lens, one of the other larger pockets is for my 50mm - 300mm lens, one pocket holds polarizing lens for my 52mm lens and 58mm lens. I like the vest because it allows me more freedom.Feedback
Some of my favorite shots have been those that I had to go back and shot when I have more time or the lighting conditions are ideal. Several months pass by from the time I thought of this shot and actually shot it. Having a vision of the shoot and actually making it happen are the most rewarding, therefore if a shoot strikes you as promising do not give up on it.
