Location
This shot was taken at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (aka Wild Animal Park). They have a spectacular annual Butterfly Jungle event that is a wonderful place to be able to capture such images.Time
This was shot about 10:00AM inside the Hidden Jungle Pavilion.Lighting
I used all natural lighting, I find that this venue has ample diffuse lighting to soften all the reflections that can appear on glossy leaves.Equipment
I used my D200 with a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR-1 and a 36mm Kenko extension tube on a Bogen monopod with a bogen swivel head. This allows a good ~1 - 3 foot working distance and I can work with the crowds with my two legs and the third leg from the monopod.Inspiration
Love these little critters and getting a clear, crisp macro really puts one view point into another world!Editing
I use Lightroom and On-1 Photo-10 for post.In my camera bag
It always various based on what I intend to shoot. At least that's how I plan it and it works out mostly.Feedback
Go mid-week and early. These more little critters don't last long and they just don't look as nice once they get dog-eared wings...
