Your photo really got my attention. My father had two vintage planes that he bought about 1946....a BT-13 and an AT-6. They looked just like the plane in your photo! Brings back memories for me, so I love you excellent shot!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot at the Ramona, CA Airport (KRNM) during a Formation Clinic hosted by "Classic Fighters of America".

Time

This was shot late morning on June 13, 2009

Lighting

The lighting was all natural as provided by a wonderful giant 'Softbox in the Sky' due to the heavy marine layer we get this time of year often referred to as "June Gloom"

Equipment

Shot with a Nikon D200 and a 50mm f1.4 @ f/4 1/1250 ISO 200 handheld.

Inspiration

This Aircraft belongs to Air Group One which is the San Diego Wing of the "Commemorative Air Force". She's know as "Sassy" and I've always loved this paint scheme and the sound of that radial engine.

Editing

This was originally toned-mapped via Photomatix (version unknown) and then converted to B&W to achieve this particular look.

In my camera bag

I've been using Nikon from back in the film days and my first DSLR was a D100. I've then progressed to a D200 and now a D7100. My lens arsenal has been Nikon 50mm f/1.4, 18-105, 24-80,80-200 AFD, 70-200 VR1, 80-400 and Tokina 12-24 f/4. I usually switch out these based on my intended subject(s), but I make certain that I've got a wide focal length available just in case.

Feedback

Key things to consider or take note of (no particular order) Framing of subject and background clutter, Lighting (I like natural), Leading lines and when shooting wide, distortion can be a burden of a blessing so notice how it effects the image...
