I took this photo at White Sands National Park in New Mexico, USA.Time
This photo was taken in the late morning, in mid-summer.Lighting
The white sand, combined with the sun directly overhead, made for incredibly bright conditions. This enabled me to max out my shutter speed (1/8000!) and still have more than enough light.Equipment
The only equipment used in this was my old Canon 40D and a 55-250mm lens. Photo was hand shot with no other equipment. We had to be very careful with the cameras during this shoot because the sand was so fine, and it covered everything it touched.Inspiration
My two friends and I (one of whom is the subject of the photo) were on a cross country road trip. We stopped at White Sands to mess around on the dunes, and knew we needed to get a few shots in while we were there. The soft sand enabled some more risk taking for photos than would normally happen.Editing
No post-processing on this shot.In my camera bag
I currently have a Canon 7D Mk II, usually set with a Tamron 18-300mm as a walk-around lens. When doing more specialized shooting, I'll bring a tripod, and occasionally a Canon 10-18mm lens as well. I no longer have the 40D this shot was taken with, though as it was my first DSLR I learned a lot with that camera and got a lot of mileage out of it.Feedback
Get out in the sun and crank that shutter speed up! Also, be sure to keep a few micro-fiber cloths and an air pump or canned air handy, as the slightest gust of wind will cover your camera in sand.
