Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on Maeda Flats beach in Okinawa, Japan.

Time

I was taking engagement photos of some friends, and after a while the sun was getting close to setting.

Lighting

It took a while to crawl around finding the right angle for proper sun positioning, but once the light was in the right place it only took a few tries to get the exposure right.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 40d and a 10-22mm lens.

Inspiration

I had the idea to get a silhouetted kiss part way through the shoot, and as we were trying out the first few test shots, I realized getting that starburst effect right where their lips met would be great.

Editing

None on this photo.

In my camera bag

Currently I go out with minimal kit: Canon 7D Mk II, Tamron 16-300mm lens, and a lens cleaner.

Feedback

Get the photo towards the end of the day when the sunlight is less intense. Also, you may need to experiment with how far away your subjects lips should be from each other to let enough light through.
