Illuminated like in broad daylight
Night fell at Precipice Lake. This was our second night on the High Sierra Trail (HST), and it was definitely a lot colder than the first, thanks to the wind blowing nonstop through the Kaweah Gap, besides the high elevation. I knew that the moon would rise early, meaning capturing the Milky Way was out of the question that night. But, I also knew that the waxing gibbous moon would rise over Eagle Scout Peak (12,020 feet). I settled in right by the water. Completely mesmerized by the precipice and its reflection, I waited for the moon to rise over the the peak towering over the lake. I wished that I had time to climb that peak. One more reason to come back, I thought to myself. Soon the moon rose, and the entire place was illuminated like in broad daylight.
