Behind The Lens

Location

I believe this was on one of the Legendary Blues Cruises on 2016.

Time

Evening and at an indoor theater.

Lighting

I find the colored spotlights can be challengeng to shoot around. So its easier to focus on faces or if you want a stage shot I take several shots because the lighting changes frequently and some shots are just ruined. You can remove some of the lights in Photoshop but they can ruin hues on skin so you just have to choose the right shot.

Equipment

I used my first Sony NEX -7 camera with a 70-240mm lens. Since it was a crop sensor it made the lens more like a 300mm. No Tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I love musicians and Buddy is a true showman. Very fun to shoot.

Editing

I primarilly use Lightroom and use the basic sliders the most. I will use PhotoShop when I need to remove a lot of spots.

In my camera bag

I love my Nikon D600 and it depends on the purpose. When I shoot wildlife, I'll use my Tamron 150-600mm. Or my Sony bridge camera with the 600mm lens. I will use my 14-24mm Nikkor for night shots

Feedback

Use multiple exposure. It is rare you can bring an SLR camera into concerts unless you have a press pass so if you can only get a few shots off, you should be in multiple shot mode. On the other hand, as a press photographer, generally you only shoot during the first three songs or so. Especially if you are moving around to get different angles. It annoys the concertgoers.
