Location
This was taken at Katmai National Park at Brooks Camp in July 2019.Time
I believe this was midday.Lighting
Just hope you aren't shooting into the sun which happens a lot since these guys move around. While it's good for a silhouette it's not one of my favorite things to do.Equipment
This was taken with my new Sony 7Riii with a 100-400 lens with 1.4 teleconverter.Inspiration
Bears are always inspirational and watching the cubs play or imitate mom is such a treat. Mom obviously was on the lookout for other bears. She's on high alert.Editing
Basic panel. I don't like to overprocess. In my camera bag
My back hates a heavy bag so I try to carry what I need for the type of shoot I am doing. A long lens is preferred and depending on the manufacturer they can be sooo heavy. I end up using my Sony RX10iv bridge camera which is only 20mp for many shots since the lens is so versitile from 24-600mm. When I feel I need a longer lens I will probably purchase th 200-600 with a 1.4 teleconverter when it becomes available for the 7Riii.Feedback
Brooks Camp is usually filled with a lot of bears in June and July but be prepared for crowds. You will find mother's & cubs because the famous falls is where the males and older bears hang out who don't want to be bothered with cubs. You can put waders on and go in the river with the fisherman for running shots but the river tends to be deeper in the summer. at the end of Aug and the frist week of Sept the river isn't quite as deep (usually). I recommend hiring a fishing guide to take you in the river since there are rules to follow about staying 50 yds or more away and they are easy to ignore. I observed a photographer and a fisherman get put on the 'bad list' for not listening. Best to hire a guide. I had this on 1250 shutter speed and burst mode so I could choose which photo I liked best.
