This was taken close to my home on one of my daily walksTime
This was taken late afternoon towards sunset as the birds were flocking to fly to roost overnightLighting
Late afternoon light but no dramatic sunset colours, a fairly featureless sky with light wisps of cloudEquipment
Nikon D5100 with Nikkor telephoto lens 55-300mm, hand held, no flashInspiration
I love birds and particularly the way they manage to fly in numbers so elegantly , filling the sky and wanted to give it a more abstract, conceptual feelEditing
I cropped a little, used a brownish tint and then inverted the coloursIn my camera bag
I use my D5100 most of the time but I also carry a Nikon P900 Coolpix , a Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens (for more wide angle shots) and an Olympus TG-1 (for rainy days as it is waterproof). I have a monopod and tripod, filter kits, macro kit, flash gun but don't always use them however I always carry spare batteries and SD cards. If I can't carry cameras, I use my mobile phone a Huawei P9 which takes quite nice images for online use.Feedback
Using some creative editing can turn an otherwise dull image into something much more interesting and evocative. Often birds are silhouetted against light skies, so inverting the colours can help to give a fresh view, but a brownish/orange tint is first needed if you want to keep a blue background. High shutter speed is needed if you want to keep the birds in focus, or you could use a slower speed for more surreal abstract blurred effect
