Location
This photo was taken at an all-inclusive beach resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.Time
I don't remember precisely, but judging from the shadows in the image, I would say that this was taken about midday.Lighting
It was a sunny, tropical day, with fluffy clouds. The clouds made the light a bit variable as they passed in front of the sun, but at the time I captured this image, it was bright.Equipment
This photo was captured with my trusty workhorse camera, a Pentax *ist DS DSLR.Inspiration
I was relaxing on the beach, enjoying cold drinks and the warm weather, but was contemplating the scenery as well. I thought that the hammock strung between the palm trees would make an interesting foreground, so I played with different angles until I found one that I liked.Editing
No post processing was done to this photo. In my camera bag
On this trip I was traveling light, with just my DSLR and a short zoom lens.Feedback
There were so many ways I could have framed the shot of the hammock, but I was looking to capture the feel of the beach, which required me to get more than just the hammock in the frame. I chose to frame the hammock so that it was visible, but not the only think in the image, off center, to allow the eye to take in the ocean beyond. I also tried to minimize the number of other foreground items in the shot, which makes the beach feel less crowded than it really was.
