Location
This photo was taken at a roadside farm stand in Calvert County, MarylandTime
This photo was taken in mid-morning on a sunny autumn day.Lighting
It was a bright, sunny day, without many clouds, which provided ample natural light.Equipment
This was shot using my trusty Pentax *ist DL, using a Pentax 18-55 mm zoom lens.Inspiration
The group wanted to stop at a farm market to pick up some fresh produce for a cook out later in the day. I wasn't going to be at the cookout, so I wasn't shopping, but I found the produce made interesting subjects for photos, so I started experimenting with framing different shots of different produce. Eventually, I got to the pumpkins, which were laid out on a series of pallets. I decided to see if I could frame the shot to eliminate as much of the background as possible. I also used an aperture priority mode to achieve a shallower depth of field to help convey some sense of depth to the image.Editing
No post-processing was performed on this image. It is straight from the camera. In my camera bag
On this particular day, I was carrying my camera with my general purpose 18-55 mm lens mounted. I also had a longer zoom and a fixed prime lens in a fanny-pack so they would be available if I decided I needed them.Feedback
Produce markets are fun places to experiment with framing and composition. Take your time and take shots from a variety of angles, using different combinations of aperture and shutter speed settings. Then compare the results from different combinations of settings to see how they impact the resulting image.
