This guy is a regular at the IHSA collegiate horse shows my daughter competes in. He is wanders the crowd, looking for anyone that might give him some food. When he is begging, he is totally focused, which gave me a great opportunity to snap this photo.

Location
This photo was taken at the College of William and Mary IHSA horse show at Willow Pond Farm in Toano, Virginia.Time
I took this sometime during the show, probably around midday.Lighting
It was a warm, sunny day, and the competition was being held in an outdoor riding ring. This photo was shot in outdoor sunlight, with no flash.Equipment
I had just acquired a new camera, a Lumix G-85, with an Olympus micro 4/3 mount 14-150 mm zoom lens.Inspiration
I was still learning about the new camera, experimenting with different settings. Much of what I shot that day was shot in black and white. This dog travels with one of the teams to all the IHSA competitions in the region, so I was familiar with his routine. He is a total mooch, and will beg for food from anyone who looks like they might give him some. When he begs, he is totally focused on the person with the food, so I knew I should be able to capture a good image. I took advantage of my zoom lens and stood back a bit so I wouldn't distract him and shot a number of different shots, using different settings. This was my favorite of the set.Editing
I did not post-process this image. This is straight out of the camera. In my camera bag
When shooting the horse shows, I have my camera and a longer lens, so I can zoom in on the action in the riding ring. The Lumix camera has some really powerful stabilization, which helps compensate for the exposure limitations of the lens. It also has a really nice 4K burst mode that allows me to capture short video clips of the action and then select individual frames to save as photos, which allows me to capture the perfect moment in the action.Feedback
Shooting animals can sometimes be a challenge, since it can be really difficult to get them to hold a specific pose. I find that it is far easier to get great images when the animal is not aware of that you are looking at them. If there is someone else available, it can be helpful to have them work with you, giving the animal someone else to focus on while you compose your shot.
