The photo was taken at the Hitchin Lavender Farm, where you can pick some fresh lavender and also sunflowers.Time
The photo was taken during a beautiful sunset 16/08/2016 at 20:32. It was 20 minutes after the sun already set and I was packing up my tripod quite happy with lavender photos I have taken. I thought that probably there will be no more photo opportunities but I urged myself to have a look at the other side of the field where the sunflowers are growing. I was rewarded with this breathtaking scene.Lighting
I thought that after the sun set the lighting levels were too low to get anything good because my focus was mostly on my lavender project. It turned out that I was rewarded with beautiful golden 'after hour' and could take this photo. The pinks and reds were beautiful contrast to the sunflowers.Equipment
I shot this photo with Nikon D5500 and 18-55mm VR II Lens. I didn't use a tripod because I already packed it instead I turned ISO higher and shot it handheld because I didn't want to miss the opportunity.Inspiration
To be honest the photo was total coincidence. I wanted to push my creativity further because I read one article from the magazine. It was mentioned there, that lavender fields could be a great addition to any photo collection, so I decided to go to Hitchin and take a shot at the flower landscape. I found out that they have sunflowers, which when discovered took my breath away. Hence the photo!Editing
Since I don't have the graduated filters yet I always take pictures using bracketing option, using 2 stops as a point of bracketing. Later I merge the photos together and adjust the saturation of the sky and the foreground to what it looked like.In my camera bag
For now since I have only started recently my equipment is not really big. I have my Nikon D5500 and 18-55mm VR II Lens. It is a really handy lens but I'd really like to buy a nice wide angle sometime soon, which could really expand my landscape shooting abilities.Feedback
What I would say that helped me is always look around twice. I read this amazing piece of advice somewhere and it really stuck with me. This shot wouldn't happen if I just finished with what I was to shoot and not explore some more. Sometimes pushing yourself to move a little but further (although camera bag and tripod might seem reaaaally heavy already) is all you need to take that one perfect shot. If you want to take some sunflowers photo - play with it, look for your own angle and you'll find it.
