Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo out of my bathroom window! I often look out to check for lovely skyscapes

Time

Late afternoon

Lighting

Slightly flat

Equipment

Nikon D5100 with Nikkor 55-300mm telephoto lens, hand held

Inspiration

I love skyscapes, the sense of freedom and adventure and this red hot air balloon set against the calm sky was a beautiful metaphor for travel and freedom

Editing

just a little contrast adjustment

In my camera bag

I always carry spare batteries and SD cards whatever camera I'm using. If I can't take a camera, I'll use my mobile, it is very rarer I'm without any way to take a photo! However, my camera bag has a Nikon D5100 & 55-300m telephoto lens, a Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens, Nikon Coolpix P900 and Olympus Tg-1 (that one's great in wet weather as it is waterproof!) I do have filters, a tripod & a monopod but don't often used them

Feedback

This is a classic example of my opportunistic approach to photography, always be on the lookout for shots, there are often opportunities when you least expect them! Equipment and camera setttings aren't always the most important as post processing can do some of the work for you, but inspiration and composition are key.
