Location
I took this on my south-facing deck where I have zinnias growing in pots.Time
It was a morning shot. I saw the butterfly while I was out watering.Lighting
It was a sunny day with warm morning light.Equipment
I used my Nikon d5300 with a Nikon 55-300mm lens.Inspiration
I had planted a pot of zinnias to draw butterflies and hummingbirds, and they worked! I love the tiny little butterflies that flit around the garden and think they are so magical. Nature is always an inspiration to me.Editing
The image had an Alice-in-Wonderland look, which I tried to enhance in the edit. I did a basic edit in Photoshop and followed up with a light texture and bokeh brush to add to the natural bokeh. The natural colors were quite bright. In my camera bag
My Nikon d5300 DSLR, usually with Nikon 55-300mm lens attached. I also have a Sigma 18-250mm macro, Nikon 40mm macro, and kit lenses. All have polarizers and neutral density filters to fit. I always have extra card and cleaning cloths.Feedback
If you want to shoot butterflies, grow flowers! Always keep your eyes open for little opportunities and the right lens on your camera for what you are hoping to shoot. It's amazing to me how such tiny things in nature can produce such beauty. I am always inspired to photograph nature.
