Adrift | Hood Canal, WA

I chase a very particular mood when I photograph, comfortable isolation. No matter what planning I make pretense of, these places and these moods always surprise me. The perfect mixture of fog and light makes me sharp and alert but each moment is so ephemeral that I can say I’ve missed more than a few opportunities capture scenes similar to Adrift. Smooth and calm like glass, pure solitude and peacefulness I almost missed this dock as I scoured the Hood Canal for a perfect scene. Divers setting up on the beach caused me to pause, just as I was about to approach them fog cleared over the water and the dock became part of the scene. I hurriedly scouted for compositions and set up my camera. I allowed myself to slow down and enjoy the cool damp air only after my camera soaked up the beautiful light.
