I can't recall the exact location this was taken but I do know it was in one of our many State Parks here in MN.Time
I know I was out hiking in a State Park and and so it would have been taken sometime in the late morning or early afternoonLighting
I am not one who only shoots during those "magical" times when the lighting is perfect. I take whatever natural light I am given and work with it.Equipment
When the digital camera arrived on the scene, I wanted nothing to do with them! However, being I shot with color transparency film and mainly Kodachrome, film became hard to find and even harder to develop and so I knew I had to succumb to the technology. This was taken with the early Rebel model and a 75-300 USM Canon lens that is designed for a film camera.Inspiration
I like to take seemingly ordinary things found in nature and make them extra-ordinary. While out on the trails, I am looking at the ground under my feet as well as the nature all around me and shoot anything that catches my eye. It can be something as beautiful as a wild flower or as common as a weed and no matter what it is, I try to make it look like something special and an image worth viewing. Fungi is one of those things I have my eye out for and while it may sound unsightly or "gross" to some, I look for the beauty in it.Editing
my images are shot raw, uploaded to my computer and then sent to Photoshop where I do as little as possible to it! I adjust the color and density, crop it the way I want it to look and saved as a tiff image. Here, I did do a little more by removing some tiny black insects that were found throughout the image.In my camera bag

Keep your eyes on a swivel when out in nature. Look around you and especially down at your feet and rather than looking at the "big picture" look at the small and seemingly insignificant things around you. Remember that anything can be made to look beautiful if you frame it just so and manage your depth of field closely.
