A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Casey McCallister for his collaboration as a guest judge. Casey McCallister is a self-taught outdoor lifestyle photographer and adventurer based in Northern California. His photography is both documentary and artistic. He captures adventures as they happen, the stages on which them play out and the moments in between.
"There's such a childlike mood in this image that makes it special. The light is brilliant to begin with, however the rays make the photo extra special along with the dust specs above and below. The potential was there to ruin this photo by over-saturation, but the edit is great. Just enough color to convey emotion, but not overpower and take away from the photo itself. Well done. "The two subjects are really tied together by excellent use of the two red colors. When any living being is the subject of the image, I'm always drawn to the eyes, and this frog is no different. There almost seems to be a glimmer in its eyes with a hint of smirk from his mouth - like he's offering the flower to a mate, hoping they'll accept." - Casey McCallister
"Such a simple frame, but this photo has such a cinematic edit to it. The combination of the flat cool and warm tones work well together, and the sharpness underneath the mushroom and in the grass draw in the eye to the main subject. Great rim lighting on the left side of the fungus, as well. Great shot!" - Casey McCallister
