Alan, I like your work. The color of the boats, the snow covered mountains, and theta lovely reflection in the lake. Very nicely done.

Location
This is Lake Louise near Banff, Canada in Banff National Park.Time
I´d like to say I got up at 4am to capture this - but in fact it was late morning !Lighting
Lighting was fairly good with partial cloud cover.Equipment
Taken handheld with a Canon 550D. Coming from the UK it is not so easy to pack a tripod. It was taken with a Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens which makes a tripod not so essential. f9 at 1/200 second at 13mm. The wide angle allowed me to get very close to the foreground subject while keeping the whole scene in focus.Inspiration
Lake Louise is a very "touristy" spot but nevertheless very inspiring. Most people did not walk very far to take a photo ! By walking just a bit away from the crowds I was able to frame this shot which not many will see.Editing
The original shot lacked a bit of impact, so I decided to give it an "HDR" look without going too far. I processed the RAW file 3 times with different exposures then combined the 3 images using the Photomatix program. This really brought out the contrast in the shot including the lighter tones inside the canoes which is what I think really makes it.In my camera bag
I always carry 2 Canon bodies - if you are traveling long distances you don´t want to have a body fail on you. It also means fewer changes of lens. I know purists will go for prime lenses but I believe in the versatility of zooms ! I have a Canon 24-105 L series lens for most work, a Canon 100-400 L series for wildlife and sports etc and a Canon 10-22 for other effects. That pretty much covers everything.Feedback
Try to get away from the crowds and look for a shot which is a bit more original. A strong foreground interest can add greatly to a landscape.
