The House in the Clouds is an old water tower which must have been seriously ugly, as they went to the trouble of disguising it by building the house around it in 1923. It has not been in use as a water tower since 1963, but the house remains in use as a rather large (5 bedroom) holiday accommodation. Apart from superior views of the countryside, the fortunate inhabitants also receive all the exercise they need simply by going to bed each night.... ;-)
It has even been bombed:
"In 1943 while firing at a low flying V1 flying bomb, an English Bofors shell passed through the S.E. corner of the tank causing extensive damage. At the time the two Miss Humphreys were in occupation and asleep below, neither lady woke up......."

Location
This photos was taken not far from where I live, in Suffolk England. It was my birthday in January, so I was having a day out by the seaside; hearing some music and exploring with my brand new Fuji xt1, which I had got for Christmas.Time
It was 4pm - after sunset at that time of year. We were driving along and I suddenly realised that the sky had turned the most incredible colours. Literally slammed on the brakes, parked, scrambled up into a field and got this picture at just the right moment.Lighting
It was just one of those lucky moments. In the right place, at exactly the right time and had the camera with me! This house - "The House in the Clouds" - which I had taken some pictures of earlier from up close, was much better situated from this vantage point - as was the amazing sunset.Equipment
I shot it with my Fuji xt1, with a 50-140mm f2.8 lens. No tripod - but I would have rested it on a fence. No flash. It was a 1/5 sec exposure at f22, ISO, 800. 83 mm lens.Inspiration
This house - a converted water tower - is one of the most famous landmarks in Suffolk and has always fascinated me. But it was the jaw dropping sunset that night which really inspired me. (.....and my delight in my new camera - what a difference from an iPhone!)Editing
I cropped it ever so slightly to remove some grass and make the house more prominent. I also, in Lightroom, increased the contrast, lightened the house a little so it's features could be seen, darkened the blacks a little, and increased the vibrance & saturation. In my camera bag
I am very new to serious photography, having relied on an iPhone for years, but I have dived in wholeheartedly and my camera bag is growing at an alarming rate...... I have my xt1, my favourite lenses - 50-140, macro, kit lens 18-55 and 100-400mm. I tend to often not carry a tripod, as I like to take photographs when gig for walks and have limited space (and strength). Instead I tend to make use of what I find around me, if necessary. Fortunately, on this occasion there was a fence to rest my camera, on as the light was low and I needed a slow shutter speed. I am hoping to get a neutral density filter next, as well as some sort of speed light.Feedback
Having your camera always with you and being prepare to stop your car (or whatever) and seize a moment is good advice, I think. Such moments are rare. I felt a bit foolish leaping out of my car and climbing up the verge, but the view was perfect - and I never would have guessed that without climbing up and looking.
