These stones: the Standing Stones of Callanish, are located on the remote Isle of Lewis - off the far north of Scotland. They are not as famous as the more well known Stonehenge, which they predate, but they are extremely impressive. They date from between 2900 and 2600 BC and their original purpose remains shrouded in mystery.
