This really speaks to me. I see the struggle within, the laying bare of ones soul. The vulnerability. I can FEEL this photo.

Location
I own a 1980 historic home that lends itself to imagery. This was taken in my in home studio that is surrounded by history and decades of nostalgia. This is all Natural light. Late mid day sun from a window to the right and a reflector for fill light left and to the front of the subject.Time
Mid to late afternoon.Lighting
All natural Using a west facing window and a reflector for fill light.Equipment
I used my Canon 1D Mark IV with a canon 24/70mm f2.8 lens. Shot on a tripod with a timed remote. Approximate settings where 1/80 sec, f5.6, ISO 600Inspiration
I often use poetry, sayings, books, life situations that surround me or the issues of others dear to me to fuel my inspiration. At the time of this photo there was conflict in my life, I used photography to help me exhale. I call this piece "introspection" because I needed to fold in on myself and search my soul for answers. I was surrounded by my music, a lovely glass of merlot and the quiet of my beautiful old home. The answers my not have made themselves known right then, but I can, with full confidence, say that the shoot gave me peace.Editing
I have a work flow in light room for basic adjustments and storage. In this picture I increase exposer by maybe 5%, decreased clarity by 5%, sharpened by approximately10% then added quite a bit of luminance to give it a painterly appearance. In Photoshop I did some minor adjustments with dodge and burn and cloned out any imperfections. In my camera bag
Always carry my 1D Mark 4 and my primary lens the 24/70mm 2.8 canon lens. My 70/200mm 2.8 packed up should action break out. A on/off camera flash with trigger if needed. A small reflector. Gaffer tape and plenty of memory cards and batteries.Feedback
Composition is so important. Think about you lines and how they flow together to create harmony with in your picture. B sure your light is soft and evenly spread over you subject. Just one hot spot (too bright) will throw everything off. Your subject at such a low shutter speed (1/80 sec) must be very still. A glass of fine wine and soft music helps a lot. Have fun.
