Location
Spring 2016 at the Fall Classic at the Georgia International Horse Park. This is a 6 Bar Class. 6 jumps, one stride a part, increasing in height. It has 6 phases .... the horses that go clean (no poles down) move to the next phase where the jump height is increased.Time
Early evening under natural and stadium lights.Lighting
Natural Light to start but as the sun sets stadium lights are turned on.Equipment
Canon 1D Mark IV Canon 300mm 2.8 prime Monopod F5.6 1/1250 sec ISO 400Inspiration
The six bar class is a unusual class. 6 jumps each increasing in height. After each round the horses that go clear (no rails dropped) move to the next phase where the jumps height is increased. A incredible show of the equine athlete. I shoot for the Classic Company as a creative promotional photographer. This was featured in their 2017 calendar.Editing
Typical edit in Lightroom then moved to Photoshop for additional enhancements. In my camera bag
For this type of shoot I carry in addition to the 300mm my 70/200mm 2.8 zoom. Extra batteries, memory cards, monopod, lens wipes, flash, remote, gaffer tapeFeedback
Leading lines and the ability to get up above the 6 bar set up really set this picture off. The background shows all 6 jumps ... I took quite a few pics until one horse clearly hit the exact middle of the set up. Composition was paramount in this picture making it both interesting and balanced.
