Location
This photo was taken at Tso Moriri Lake, Leh, India. This was during the end of summer in Leh and there were late evening snow showers at times. Tso Moriri is at an altitude of 4,522 m (14,836 ft). It is the largest of the high altitude lakes entirely within India and entirely within Ladakh in this Trans-Himalayan biogeographic regionTime
After a long drive from Leh, we reached Tso Moriri Lake in the evening around 5 PM. We checked into the hotel nearby and walked down to the lake. We passed grazing lands of local pashmina Sheep and reached the lake. There were not many people. The weather was quite sunny and we were waiting for the sunsetLighting
The weather changed from being sunny to windy. Within no time there was snow fall on the higher mountains. Talk about weather changes in the high mountains!! I stayed back and clicked few pics. I like this composition where one of the tourist was watching the mountain over the lake. There was still some sun left which highlighted the skies in the right spots.Equipment
This photo was taken using a Nikon D5100 with a 18-55 mm kit lens.Inspiration
The beauty of Trans-Himalayan range. I want to capture the moment which made me realize life in mountains is unpredictable. The tourist and the huge Mountains in front of him, made me realize how small we are in this world and how small is our life and all the worries!!Editing
I converted the sunset to black and white as it made the highlights pop-up. The sun from behind was highlighting the sky and the darker sky behind gave a good contrast to work with black and white modeIn my camera bag
I generally carry my Nikon D750 with kit lens, 50mm and 70-200. A carry a light weight travel tripod and an extra batteryFeedback
Wait for the right moment and try to capture the proper essence. When you see the photo again, it should remind you of the time you had spent there and the emotions you had while capturing the photo. The weather in the mountains changes suddenly creating some surreal landscapes. Be prepared for that and capture the right moment!!
