Location
This photo was taken at a St. Vincent aka Annie Clark concert at Bogart's in Cincinnati, Ohio.Time
St. Vincent was the headliner that evening, and as with mosts bands I cover, photographers are usually only given the first songs of an artist's set to capture your shots.Lighting
The venue I shot this image has a decent lighting rig, but as with any concert photo gig, the lighting was ranging from extreme highlights to absolute darkness at a rapid pace.Equipment
That evening was I was using a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a Canon EF 16-35mm 2.8L II USM lens.Inspiration
I love photographing live music, and I knew St. Vincent was going to entertain her audience with an excellent performance.Editing
I shoot all my images in RAW as I can fully utilize LR and PS in post-production. Mainly to adjust color balance clean up noise in the mid-tones and blacks. In my camera bag
When shooting a concert, I usually have two Canon 5D Mark III bodies mounted with some sort of 2.8 wide zoom lens and the other with my workhorse Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens this saves me time while I'm in the photo pit since I usually only get three songs to capture the magic.Feedback
When starting out shooting concert photography also try to get a fast lens before upgrading your camera body. Most concert venues will leave you dealing with poor lighting conditions and with a fast piece of glass 2.8 or faster that will help you capture the fast moving action without having to compromise your shutter speed.
