Location
While out on a day trip with my 90 year old Mother, I saw what I thought might be an amazing sunset forming. I uploaded The Photographers Ephemeris app and then got my map out to determine what might be a decent location. This was taken on the North side of Galveston Island, overlooking the Galveston Bay. I would like to interject that this picture is very special to me, as it was the last sunset we saw with my Mother.Time
This was taken in December, and during standard time vs Savings Time. It was taken at 5:35 pm.Lighting
I didn't have to do anything about the lighting. Nature did it all.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 6D with my Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS, USM lens and Hood Loupe (it's a life saver for sharp images). The settings were 1/20 sec at f/11, 50mm, and ISO 100.Inspiration
Having seen many images of fantastic sunsets, I was hoping I might capture one that would inspire others.Editing
The only post-processing I did was to clean spots off and the straighten the horizon. It was pretty much straight out of the camera. In my camera bag
At the time I took this picture, I had my Canon EOS 6D, Canon EF24-105mm f/4L, Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6, and Canon Macro EF100mm, f/2.8L lenses. I almost always have my tripod stashed in the car. Other items in my bag are the Hood Loupe, Polarizing filters, multi-colored flashlight, extra battery, extra cards and a very important item - Insect Repellent Wipes, which I used on this outing.Feedback
My advice would be to keep your eyes on the sky and always have some sort of app available to locate the position of the Sun setting or rising, This is also the same advice for the Moon. The other thing to watch is the weather. Look for days that might be cloudy. I was "lucky" in regards to planning. We were just out for a day trip to get my Mom outside. One last thing...be prepared for the unexpected.
