This image was taken at White Sands National Monument, in New Mexico. This is gypsum sand and very course. The ridges-lines in the sand can be amazing as long as the many visitors there don't spoil them.

This was taken around 6:00 PM. The wispy clouds added a little to the scene and it has become one of my favorite images.Lighting
The wispy clouds added a little to the scene and it has become one of my favorite images.Equipment
I shot this with my Canon EOS 6D, using the EF24-105mm f/4L lens. It was handheld and the settings were 1/800 sec at f/9.0, 24mm ISO 100.Inspiration
Having visited White Sands before, I knew what an amazing place it was. My husband and I took a road trip and I knew I wanted to show his White Sands. While driving through, I saw this hill with the sand ripples (and no foot prints) and having to look up, it seemed like the right composition for the image.Editing
The only post-processing was minor adjustments in Lightroom, like removing some spots that were on my lens.In my camera bag
Most all my equipment is Canon. EOS 6D, and EOS T3i as backup. Lenses include 24-105mm f/4 IS USM, 17-40mm f/4L USM, 34 75-300mm f/4-5.6III, Macro EF 100mm, f/2.8L USM. There is an assortment of other things, i.e Lens Hoods, Loupe, Head Lamp, Multi-colored flash light, Kneww Pads, Extra card readers, batteries (both camera & flashlight), and remote.Feedback
The White Sands National Park is easily accessible from Alamogordo, NM. The only thing you must be aware of, is that the White Sands Missile Range is nearby and the road is sometimes closed due to firings. Other than that, go early or late, as the sand it hot. The nights with a full moon may be crowded. Weekends are filled with sounds of children laughing as they slide down the dunes. It is a wonderful place.
