Location
This photo was taken in Antelope Canyon, near Page Arizona. I edited the photo, adding in the purple tones using Lightroom.Time
I took the photo around noon. The sun was directly above, which is technically not the best time for the canyon, as the shadows are not as pronounced, but it seems to have worked out pretty well.Lighting
As I said above, lighting in the slot canyon is difficult to work with. With the sun at its height for the day, most of my photos were over exposed, but I was able to get about 30 shots in without significant issues.Equipment
Canon Rebel T5, a 35mm lens, and my eye for a shot. I can't complain with the result.Inspiration
For years I saw photos from Antelope Canyon and knew that I had to go there. Each one seemed more beautiful than the next. While I was on a week trek through Utah and Arizona, I finally was able to go there. Quite frankly, the photo you see here does not do the canyon justice. It is an amazing place, filled with twists and turns, a twenty foot ladder, and is typically crammed with tourists. But, it is worth it!Editing
It was pretty simple really. I sharpened the photo in Adobe Lightroom and then added a purple gradient diagonally, sloping up from left to right. In my camera bag
A tripod, two cell phones used as cameras (they're sometimes easier to use in tight places), Canon Rebel T5, an assortment of lenses, a large flash bulb, and a timer.Feedback
Go in about an hour before the sun is at it's height, or an hour after it's height. You'll get perfect shadows. Also, check out the other Antelope Canyon, the one you can only visit in a photography tour. You won't regret it.
