This photo was taken in the hay field where my horse, who is in this photo, is boarded. I had been wanting to shoot on the top hayfield since we moved in a year ago.Time
This was taken approx. about 6:30. We started shooting in the hay field around around 5 and as the sun set to the left of us it gave us this amazing light.Lighting
It is all natural sunlight just before sunset. I did not use any reflectors or anything to diffuse it. I wanted that real warm look but kind of high key look.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7000 and 40mm lens.Inspiration
For months I had a vision of a chair in the middle of the hay field where I had been wanting to shoot for months. I finally found the chair that I was seeing my mind. When my friend said she wanted to do a shoot with my horse, it all started coming together. And as started getting excited about it I thought about the flowers and decided to make matching head/neck wreaths.Editing
I usually always play with the white balance, I wanted a warm dreamy look so I upped it a good bit. The rest of the process was just some light tweaking of the basics module in LR. And I did a little sharpening. In my camera bag
I have 2 Nikon bodies my Nikon D7000 my go to body and my D3000 my back up for now. I have 3 Nikon lenses, 40mm macro, 18-105mm and my 70-300mm. My main lens is my 40mm macro, I use it for almost everything, its fast and sharp.Feedback
Patience. When working with any animal, especially horses, patience is key. Have the owner on hand so they can move the horse around and give them commands. My horse is trained to stand when I ask her. While in my head, I pictured her a little closer to the chair, she was standing perfectly still, interested in something across the field, I left her be. And I actually like the image better than what I was seeing my head. Have ways to make noises for the animals to perk up their ears. And in this kind of light, which is not forgiving, watch shadows and bright highlights. I used Angel, to help shade Sam.
