Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the city of Pittsburgh, along the Riverfront Trail. This is the bridge that goes from the North Side near the Heinz plant to the Washington's Landing.

Time

This was taken in late morning, about 11:30am.

Lighting

I wanted the photo to feel dreary so I just used the natural lighting.

Equipment

Nikon D7000, 18-105mm lens at 18mm,used a tripod

Inspiration

I was shooting the city & ice on the river from the bridge and I liked the look of the ramp doing down and thought going up would look even cooler. When I got the bottom, I positioned myself in the middle of the ramp. Set the lens at 18mm as I wanted the feel of the railings narrowing and going up.

Editing

Yes, I did. Mostly basic post processing. I did not have the white balance warm enough so I had to adjust that, lowered the highlights and whites as I wanted the dark clouds to be more prominent. Added a little black & shadows along with clarity, sharpness. Since it was so dreary, I added some vibrance & saturation.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000, D3000, 40mm macro, 18mm-105mm, 55mm-300mm, Bower flash

Feedback

I now am always looking for different perspectives. With areas that have lots of straight lines or even sides make sure you are in the middle of whatever ever it is you are shooting. Not being in the middle can throw off the perspective.
