Location
This photo was taken in Brixham, Devon. I had a small studio in Paignton at the time, but it was going to be too small for the family shoot that included Evie. I had a friend who was in charge of a few empty shops that were being let, so he allowed me to have the keys and use the empty shop for this shoot.Time
It was an early afternoon shoot.Lighting
The shop being used had a very large window and the door was also a glass door, so I had plenty of light coming in.Equipment
I was using my Nikon D200 for these shoot and using various lens.Inspiration
This was one of those captured in the moment shot, it wasn't planned, it was just setting up for the next shot, but Evie was just sat there looking so sweet that I had to take a picture, there was also her younger sister Poppy there, plus Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandad and Uncle. I know that I took a lot more shots of the young ones.Editing
I do like to play in Photoshop, sometimes though I can go too far and lose the image that I had originally taken, This particular shot I sharpened her eyes and used some moveable light filters, which gives it the tone over the image. In my camera bag
I use a Nikon D3200 a lot now, but still like to use my Nikon D200, my favourite lens at the moment is my Nikon 55 - 300mm, but I also like to take a Macro with me, My friend also has a lovely collection of Lens so I will often ask to borrow something from him.Feedback
I think the best advice I can give to someone who would like to take a shot like this, is not to be too rigid and try and set up too many shots and positions, it really is nice to get photos when they are not aware. But everyone is different and what works for one doesn't work for another, I will always class myself as learning, because there is always so much to learn, I also know that there are a great many photographers out there that I admire and love looking at their work, so I don't expect many to look at my work in the same way. But it is never about who is better than who, but enjoying what you do and always trying to grow, experiment and trying something new.
