I found this cute Praying Mantis on a walk through my garden. I love nature and had been waiting on an opportunity to capture one in their environment.Time
It was late afternoon but still had plenty of light.Lighting
The light from the later soft afternoon sun made for such a pretty green background in the pine tree behind the scene.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5000 with a Nikkor 55-200 lens.Inspiration
I love taking pictures of nature and I'm trying to capture as many animals, bees, birds, butterflies, bugs, insects, plants, flowers and trees as possible. I want one or two of everything.Editing
I do very little post-processing except cropping and adjusting lighting or color as necessary. I try to take the best picture I can to start with. I like very natural looking photos without a lot of trick post-processing stuff. I like taking the pictures more than playing on the computer adjusting the pics.In my camera bag
I take my Nikon D5000 with my two Nikkor lenses with me everywhere. We go on daily jeep rides in the N. GA mountains. You never know when a beautiful big bear or deer will run out in the road in front of you or a lovely sunset will appear or you will catch a beautiful smile on a friend so you always need to be ready!Feedback
I am an avid gardener and began taking photos to document my lovely flowers, especially my beautiful native azaleas and other collections of native flowers. Those brought in lovely butterflies, bees and other insects and then the animals came. My best advice is to get outside and spend time just walking around and looking. I often find lovely and scary creatures just by accident when I happen upon them looking at a flower or leaf. Our cabin is in the lovely N.GA mountains around Helen. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place to enjoy improving my photography skills!
