Made front page news in the White County Newspaper. Helen's finest protecting their citizens!
This driver had run away from the officer and made him chase him 1-2 a mile. When the officer got to our jeep up beside this car, he pulled his gun and stepped in front of the car. This is when I took the photos. The driver then tried to run over him several times before turning left and tried to out run the officer. He then jumped out his car and began running, leaving his family in the car.
Very scary to weapons pulled and pointed near us.

It was quite surreal. We had no place to go as we were trapped in traffic. I was hoping he wouldn't have to shoot.

Yes, the crowd helped. He actually pulled over and then tried to run the officer over and then jumped out of his car and ran leaving his family behind. Apparently he had a warrant out.

This was in Helen, GA at the 2013 SOWO event. People get out of control.

You do realize that a slight movement of the officers weapon would put the bullet through you. You may have interfered with the arrest because the officer observed you in the line of fire. Good capture on your part.

I know, we were actually scared. We were in traffic with NO where to go. We watched the officer run after this car coming toward us and then the car got stuck in traffic beside us. I didn't interfere as I was in our jeep and just turned around backwards to take the photo. The car then turned behind us to go into a clearing still trying to get away and then jumped out of his moving car with his family still in the car. He then ran back across the road behind us and people and the officer were chasing him. Actually some people in the crowd finally tackled him. It was unreal! My photo made front page news.......:)

as a former U.S army combat medic I have to applaud the officers form on his weapon. notice how he has his finger OUTSIDE the finger guard.

Great image! Way to remain calm and capture the shot. Lots of people freeze up in similar situations. Well done!

Location
This photo was taken in Helen, GA at their 2013 SOWO (Southern Worthersee) Volkswagen car show event. We were sitting in traffic enjoying all the cars and people when all of sudden this policeman was running down the road, came right beside us and went around to the front of this car with gun/taser drawn. It was very surreal. The car turned left into the grass and tried to run over the cop. He sped off and eventually jumped out of his car and ran away on foot. The cop and the public chased him and finally caught him. It was very exciting and something you don't see every day.Time
It was about 2:00 in the middle of the day.Lighting
It was a gorgeous sunny day.Equipment
I handheld my Nikon D5000 and Nikkor 55-200mm lens.Inspiration
It was a once in a lifetime event and I had a front row seat. We were in our jeep and I turned around and just started snapping photos as the officer ran up to the front of the car. This photo and the story behind it made the front page of the White County newspaper.Editing
No, I do very little post-processing. I just try to take a good photo. I may do some tighter cropping or adjusting lighting and color if necessary..In my camera bag
I take my camera/lens everywhere. You never know when something exciting is going to happen: you are going to see a beautiful sunset or sunrise; a bear is going to run across the road; a deer is out in a field; or there will be beautiful butterflies on wildflowers on the side of the road.Feedback
Always be ready to shoot! Have your camera with you at all times!
