Location
Brimham Rocks, a National Trust site in Yorkshire, EnglandTime
It was late afternoon/early evening. I'd been watching the Tour de France nearby, and detoured to Brimham for a break before heading home. Lots of other people clearly thought the same because most of the rock formations (and there are lots here) were covered in people scaling the easier routes and standing on top of the accessible summits. My only options were limited to the less accessible areas, and shooting upwards to keep to the highest spots, but then I spotted this tree that had taken route where the humans had failed.Lighting
Natural lighting only.Equipment
Canon 5D III with 24-70 lens handheld.Inspiration
This is a well known beauty spot that I'd never been to before - I'm always curious to visit such places and see if I can find a shot that avoids being the usual cliche that everyone else takes when they visit.Editing
Added some vignetting in post to add to the general moodiness that the wind blasted tree creates. I thought about cloning out the bird near the tree as it can look a little like a blemish, but the crows are also part of the mood.In my camera bag
A range of lenses from 17 up 200mm plus a 1.4 converter allows me to capture pretty much whatever I feel like as I tend to shoot landscapes and architecture more often than anything else.Feedback
If I was aiming to photograph Brimham again, I'd go out of season when there are fewer people around, or maybe be there at dawn before the crowds.
