Behind The Lens

Location
On the fringes of Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona
Time
This was late afternoon, or at least near sunset as it was taken in late October.
Lighting
Available light only.
Equipment
Canon 5d Mk III handheld. 70-200mm telephoto
Inspiration
I always take a range of people shots on my travels as they give a feel for the location as much as landscapes or architecture. I was sitting near a bus stop watching for people lit by the setting sun as they crossed an unshaded piece of road. While waiting for a suitably interesting subject the people around me moved and opened a gap to this young woman who was sitting on a low wall waiting for a bus after a shopping trip. The people around her and her shopping bags created a natural frame that drew my attention, and as I raised my camera she made eye contact. Job done.
Editing
I ran Imagenomic portraiture and then a little dodge and burn.
In my camera bag
In addition to the camera and lens above I also carry 24-70 and 17-40 lenses and some ND filters. Rarely carry flash (too heavy) unless I know I will definitely need it, and reserve tripod for night time shooting again to be able to travel light.
Feedback
Be patient. Choose somewhere with lots of people traffic, sit somewhere unobtrusive and wait to see what happens.
