I took this photo at Alverstone squirrel hide on the isle of wight in England. Nature photography is not something i've done a lot of so it was certainly exciting and something new to me!Time
It wasn't really planned kind of spontaneous. One of those 'right place at the right time' moments.Lighting
Lighting wasn't really an issue with this shot. It was late afternoon, relativity sunny, All natural lightningEquipment
I shot this on a Canon 550D & a Canon 50mm 1.8Inspiration
I've never really done much nature photography. I Often see regular photos from photographers i follow of there amazing shots, And have always wanted to achieve something similar but also have my unique take on the subject.Editing
My photos have a very similar style. I ran this one through lightroom, making basic adjustments with the shadows, lighting Etc. & then applying a Vsco film and adjusting it to my liking giving the shot a warm, sharp feeling. In my camera bag
In my camera bag i Always pack my canon 550D it's perfect for me & produces great sharp images. Not forgetting my two lenses. My sigma 20mm 1.8 for the wide angle landscape images, Which is also my all round lens. I also pack my Canon 50mm 1.8 Which is perfect for more close up/cropped images. I usually have a couple filters mainly uv, & polarisers, Spare batteries and not forgetting my Joby gorilla pod Which is perfect for any terrain when i'm not carrying my main tripod, as it attaches to almost anything like a fence.Feedback
Patience,Patience,Patience! I was Actually with my mom when visiting the squirrel hide And as i was just about to leave she said give it 5 more minutes. That's when out of no where a red squirrel (shot above) jumped down from a tree right in front of me for a snack. i was stood only around 4 feet away and managed to get a bunch of shots just in time before he quickly climbed back up the tree! I was really pleased with this photo so I entered it into a local wildlife trust competition (Hampshire & Isle of wight wildlife trust) 2016 calendar Which was also judged by Chris packham an English naturalist, nature photographer, television presenter and author. My photo actually won a place in the calender and was the month of January! i was chuffed! Moral of the story. Don't give up. :)
