Took this shot at Mull Head Nature Reserve in the islands of Orkney, Scotland. It is my first attempt at focus stacking. If you look closely at the water near the rock face in the centre of the frame you can just make out a sea lion popping up.

Took this shot at Mull Head Nature Reserve in the islands of Orkney, Scotland. It is my first attempt at focus stacking. If you look closely at the water near the rock face in the center of the frame you can just make out a sea lion popping up.Time
The shot was taken on the 09/06/2015 at 19:00pm.Lighting
The best thing about the Orkney Islands at this time of year is that it never really gets dark. You could take shots right up to around 1am using available light. When I arrived at this location it was very dull and overcast but about 1hr later the whole sky just changed to a fantastic colour and made the scene I was seeing look even more beautiful than it already was.Equipment
Canon 70D, Canon EF 17-40 F4 L lens, Hahnel Triad Compact C4 tripod and a Hoya HRT circular polarizing filter.Inspiration
The shear beauty of the Orkney Islands inspired me to take this shot. There is no end to the fantastic locations on this Island for photographers. I was working on the Island for two weeks in June 2015 and spent all my free time after work scouting around the Island taking in all it has to offer. I would highly recommend any photographer to visit this beautiful place.Editing
The shot was made up from around 6 different shots. I would focus at a different point in the frame each time and then recompose. I made a few adjustment in lightroom to my first shot (white balance, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, clarity and added a little contrast). I then synced the rest of the shots with this first one. After this I transferred all the shots into photoshop and focus stacked into one image. This final image was then moved back into lightroom for some sharpening and noise reduction. In my camera bag
I always have with me, my Canon 70D, a Hoya HRT circular polarizing filter, a canon EF 50mm F1.8, my canon EF 17- 40 F4 L, a canon 24 -105 L and my Samyang 14mm F2.8 manual lens.Feedback
The only advise I can offer is to first explore your soundings, take in all the beauty around you before you even take the camera out of your bag. Sit and enjoy what your looking at before you take your shot to share with others. For me this makes photography more enjoyable as when I look back on my shots I get to experience the joy i felt all over again. Never get hung up on taking that perfect shot. First and foremost, photography is for you.
