Location
I took this photo in my home. I purchased several sheets in various colors at my local Goodwill in order to set up an antique bowl and pitcher set. All of a sudden my newly adopted cat jumped up and decided to make herself at home right in the middle of my bowl and voila! This photo session turned out to be a lot more fun!Time
I took this photo right after lunch when the sun was beginning to shine through my sliding glass door.Lighting
I used the natural light from a large window and one softbox on the side. I had just unpacked my new softbox and set it up trying to decide where to place the box for an appropriate lighting effect. When Sydney my cat jumped in the bowl all was abandoned and I just started shooting.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens. I set my ISO at 500, exposure 1/100 and f stop at 5.6.Inspiration
Initially, I was learning about how to set up my new softboxes because I wanted to have a "studio" for my cats and dogs. I realized that Sydney, my newest addition to the family, was quickly becoming a camera hog and decided to put her own creativity into this photo. Her captivating golden eyes blended in so well with the gold leaf in the antique bowl set that I knew I had to have this photo.Editing
Yes, I did a little post-processing in LR 5.1. The photo was a bit underexposed so I had to raise that just a little and bumped up the clarity, vibrance and increased the contrast by just a smidgen. That was about all I did.In my camera bag
I have a small LowePro backpack and in it is a Nikon D5100, Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 lens (my favorite), Nikkor 70-200mm f4 lens, lens cleaner set, extra camera batteries and memory cards and a polarizing filter and reflector disk.Feedback
I love taking photos of my pets and it can be quite a challenge when you have a lively young cat in the mix. Pack a lot of patience, and when moving around when taking photos try to always be aware of your correct exposure setting. I had a bit too much reflection from the softbox light,so I would advise others to check their shot for any abnormal shadows or highlights that can be distracting.
