This shot is at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster Colorado up Highway 36 towards Boulder.Time
This was indoors with natural sunlight through a very open structure but it was hot. The entire Pavilion is designed for their comfort not ours. :-)Lighting

Nikon D810 with my F2.8 70-200MM lens hand held. I shot this with my variable f stop 28-300mm lens first then looked over the shots and went back with the 70-200 for better results thanks to the glass quality.Inspiration
This is a beautiful place to be and everything flying around lends itself to taking beautiful shots. I love this one in particular because it is handing upside down in a rather large field of green. The offset in color was awesome.Editing
I cropped this from a much larger shot. I don't like to manipulate my photos much for many reasons. 1) because I think the shout should stand for itself and 2) I'm not very good at post production. This was originally a 14 bit RAW file and it did need work. I used color fade correction and stepped up the vibrancy of the shot and that is all I can think of doing because those are all I am comfortable with. I don't do anything daring in the photo editor because I don't like over processed shots.In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D5100 with an 18-105mm walking lens that I use primarily for its light weight and ability to take my full frame lenses to 1.5 magnification. I carry a D810 as my primary shooter with a 28-300mm working lens. I also have an 18-70 F2.8 zoom and a 70-200 f2.8 zoom for fast shots of birds and other low light shots requiring the faster speed of the f2.8. I have a Tamron 15-30 wide angle f2.8 and an 85mm f1.8 lens that I just purchased. They extend my range and provide excellent coverage of the wide open skies of Colorado. I rarely use flash but have a speed light that is still in the delivery cellophane one day I will use it. I carry a generous amount of cleaning equipment, memory cards and water to carry me through a long day of shooting.Feedback
The more I shoot the more I realize I don't know very much. It is a learning process always. From the location to the end product everything must click. I am getting better at taking the shot through practice and study. I read lots of books and magazines to get ideas but when I am there it is just me and what I like basically. I know there are a lot of art critics that would butcher my shots based on composition, quality of perspective, color, contrast and the list goes on. . . I do try to get more quality shots that a critic will like because at some point I would love to make this a career but. . I do this because I love it and am ok with critique that is negative of a learned individual because it makes me get better I find I learn more from those that don't like my work than those that do.
