Behind The Lens
Location
Photo was taken just west, looking east, of the former Bethlehem Steel Plant in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. The 2 Canadian Pacific engines are in what is known as Norfolk Southerns River yard.Time
Photo was taken late morning after returning from a morning of railfanning.Lighting
The lighting for that time of day worked well with the position of the engines.Equipment
Canon T3i, Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. ISO 100, f7.1 1/400th @ 85mm.Inspiration
When I stopped and saw the engines there I wanted to capture the Steel Plant behind the 2 engines, but to emphasive the color of the engines.Editing
I made some minor adjustments to shadows and highlights in Lightroom, then exported the image into Photoshop where I used the tilt/ shift plugin to make the engines stand out. Then I had to manually blur around the 2 engines and other sections of the photo to get the desired effect. In my camera bag
I do not go anywhere without my camera bag. I have the Canon 70D with a Canon 18-135mm IS STM as the main camera and a Canon T3i with a Canon 10-18mm lens as extra or for instances I want more coverage or a wider perspective. I also carry a Bell & Howell 8mm fisheye, a Sigma 150-600mm DG OS HSM and a Canon 60mm f2.8 macro.Feedback
Patience, at any time during the week or even day the trains move around here. Some times these engines would be blocked by freight cars, or the may be in a different part of the yard. I usually stop by every time I am in the area. On this day I was lucky as the 2 engines were alone alone.
