Location
This photo was taken a Charlotte Motor Speedway/ Lowes Motor Speedway at the end of the pre race "Tribute to the Troops". I was standing just outside the track at turn 4.Time
It was late afternoon/early evening as the race starts in the day and ends in the night.Lighting
Thankfully the sun was still high enough in the sky so not only where the planes sunlight but the fans in the stands where not in the shadows of the track.Equipment
I was using a Canon T3i with a Canon 100-400mm lens.Inspiration
After shooting the pre race festivities on the the track I was actually heading back to my friends camper just outside the track to drop off my equipment and go back and watch the race from the stands without all my gear. I was looking for a good spot where I thought the flyby would go over . I was in turn 4 as it was close to where I was headed to and thought about just outside the track where I could see them coming from a distance. I saw these two guys also waiting at the top of the stands and decided to use them in the photo if the planes traveled over head in their position. I t worked out in my favor.Editing
Not much, just some adjustments to highlight and shadows and a little cropping. In my camera bag
When this image was taken I was just carrying a T3i with the 100-400mm and a T3 with a 18-135mm on my shoulders with a monopod clip to my belt. I also had a small backpack with a Sigma 10-22mm and a 8mm, both for any creative angle shots.Feedback
It could have been just another flyby taken from below but I thought about other options and angles. If you can, plan and think about how you can do something different or unique. I did the planning on this shot but I also got lucky.
