Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Yellowknife, Canada. It was my third attempt to see the Northern Lights. My prior trips to the Nordic area were a bust.

Time

I remember it was cold and probably close to midnight. I was waiting in the car to time my photo just right.

Lighting

I wanted to photograph an interesting pattern and try to get some different colors. Once I saw the lights against the hill and trees, I knew it was the one. I focused on the lights.

Equipment

I used my tripod, Canon 5D Mark IV and my 24-70mm 2.8 Canon lens.

Inspiration

I have dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights and I was hoping Yellowknife would be a lucky trip. Once mother nature’s light show started, I knew I had to capture as many shots as possible.

Editing

I did not to any post processing.

In my camera bag

My Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm 2.8 Canon lens and 70-200mm 2.8 Canon lens

Feedback

Be patient, dress warmly and have fun. Try different backgrounds and try to capture different colors.
