Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the streets of Havana, Cuba. I was fortunate enough to go with my dad and see the city through his eyes.

Time

My dad and I were walking through the streets admiring all the history. He has a particular fascination with cars and saw this one. It was in the morning before the heat and humidity set in so it was fairly pleasant. He started telling me a story about the make and model of the car and I wanted to make sure I took a picture to remember that moment.

Lighting

I was very lucky with lighting as there were other buildings around me to block the sun. It helped to show all the details of the surrounding buildings.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5D with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The story my dad was telling me about the car and his memory of the car. It was as if he was transported to his youth. I had to make sure I captured this moment in time.

Editing

The only thing I did was convert it to a black and white photo. With my dad reminiscing on his childhood, I thought it was only appropriate for the photo to be in black and white.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 5D with me and the 24-70mm 2.8 lens. It's always my go to when I'm walking around. I also have my rapid strap so I have my camera handy at all times! I'm always looking for an interesting shot and it helps to have it at a moment's notice.

Feedback

Cuba is filled with so many opportunities and be open to shooting something different and new. You never know what you will stumble upon and the most important thing is to hear stories from the locals. I find that very inspiring and it helps me to connect with a location I haven't been before.
