This photo was taken in a field near my favorite place to stalk wildlife, which is Two Rivers Park, in Little Rock, Arkansas.Time
I took this shot in the early morning last fall, right after first light.Lighting
I take 95 % of all photos outdoors with the natural light available. This particular morning there was no decent lighting as it was cloudy and lightly raining. I was pursuing a gigantic buck near the tree line when the clouds parted slightly and a single muted ray of sunshine broke through and I turned to look and this beautiful doe was walking away and stopped and partially turned to face me. It just turned out rightEquipment
My trusty CoolPix 520 attached to a Manfrotto monopod.Inspiration
I was searching out photo opportunities of antlered big bucks, when I saw this opportunity and I recognized two things. One, I recognized this doe from endless stalking of deer in the area, and she is both beautiful and fairly tame. Two, as soon as I focused I knew it was the perfect confluence of subject, position and light.Editing
Only a couple of minor tweaks to sharpen and improve colorIn my camera bag
Just my CoolPix 520 and monopodFeedback
Five words to create this shot: persistence, luck, location, location, location. I know this land like it was my own yard, from walking through every weekend and every day during the summer, so I know this is a great photo shoot area for deer. Sometimes the light is wrong, sometimes nature's beauty isn't apparent, but sometimes everything comes together
