This photo was taken in Two Rivers park in Little Rock Arkansas. The subject is standing in a slackwater inlet between the Little Maumelle and the main channel of the Arkansas RiverTime
Early morning in the fall, when the days in Arkansas are still warm but the nights are dropping off dramatically, producing a fog layer near both riversLighting
The natural sunlight was going to burn off the thick fog layer within the hour., the super thick fog was far less photogenic until this moment. It appeared as just a white blank space. The precise moment yielded the perfect light to create the almost sepia look.Equipment
Handheld Nikon Coolpix P510. I believe the auto settings were set on LandscapeInspiration
The funny thing about this shot was it was almost an afterthought. I had attempted several shots of the foggy conditions and been completely unhappy. I had begun to walk away, in pursuit of deer deeper in the park., and looked over my shoulder as the sun lit up the area and there was old Graak!, a resident heron, and easily the noisiest. I paused, turned, pointed and snapped. The result was pretty goodEditing
Nothing extreme. I did some very minor adjustments to color levels and brightness using the basic Nikon processing softwareIn my camera bag
The camera and occasionally a Manfrotto monopod are the only pieces of equipmentFeedback
First, create the opportunity by being anywhere where fog exits. Move around in the pre light and guess when and where the light will penetrate the fog. Then....get lucky and be patient
