Location
Was sitting on the front veranda when I witnessed a small bird hit our window. It was a Red Browed Fire Tail. Falling to the ground I raced over to pick the bird up. In so much shock it stayed on my mums hand until it recovered. After drinking water droplets off my finger the bird flew awayTime
It was a late afternoon when all the small birds are in their glory! Wrens, Thornbills, Finches all together feeding, we watch them every afternoon.Lighting
There was no sun glare on the window, so the birds couldn't see the glass.Equipment
I use my canon 1100D, with 18-55mm lensInspiration
I have never seen a small bird like this up close and personal. larger birds yes, but a finch I only ever see from up to a metre away. When they are right before your eyes you can see how small and how perfect their feathers are. All the detail and all the beauty.Editing
I didn't like the fact I had a bright blue trap in the background. I wasn't confident with any editing at this time. So I simply kept the red mask of the bird and got rid of the rest of the colour. Only thing I knew what to do at the time.In my camera bag
Canon 600D, 18-55mm, 70-300mm, 50mm, lens cleaners, water and a snack.Feedback
Nature is not planned, I was lucky to be able to photograph a finch with a 18-55mm lens that close; but to have it sitting in mums hand, drinking water off my finger. You really see nature better when you least expect it. So you be ready with the camera and they'll give you camera ready.
