I took this photo at my home in Duncans Creek, NSW (Tamworth Area)Time
I started to attempt this photo just after lunch time, but it was hours later when I became successful towards sunset which did leave a lovely orange toneLighting
I wanted some natural light in my image, so you could imagine how many times I threw that Muscovy Duck Feather in the air trying to capture the perfect photo of the feather floating through the air with the sun involved.Equipment
After numerous takes of this image, I had an idea! A piece of fishing line will fit in the Quill and up the shaft of the feather so you are able to constantly have the feather in the air blowing in the wind, changing angles, getting as little or as much natural light as preferred. Lucky the Canon 1100D is quite light or we would have a very sore arm! 18-55mm canon lens used also.Inspiration
I got the idea for this photo watching my Muscovy Drake flap around loosing his feathers in the wind and seeing the light go through the white feather giving it a yellowy tinge, i thought it was interesting and I knew what photo I wanted right away.Editing
Using Photoshop Elements I removed any traces of the fishing line leaving the illusion of a floating feather. In my camera bag
I have the essentials in my camera bag and now that means fishing line!Feedback
After spending hours trying to get this shot, the fishing line helped me get my image in a sorter period of time; and if lucky the fishing line may not be visible with the certain angle of light shinning through. The fishing line is also easy to Photoshop, being so thin, clear and light. If you are after this image with out the fishing line, I suggest you use the lightest gear possible as you may be there hold you camera up for a long time. Good Luck!
